The N. E. Tarble Athletic and Recreation Center, known as the “TARC,” includes a 16-lane swimming pool, indoor rock-climbing wall, 200-meter indoor track, 5,000-square-foot fitness center, baseball practice area, and multipurpose courts for basketball, volleyball, and tennis.

Tarble Arena

Tarble Arena, completed in January 2009, houses games and practices for men’s and women’s basketball, and men’s and women’s volleyball. The facility features a parquet floor, arena seating for 2,385 fans with all red seats and theatre-style chairs on the west side, a giant video board, and state-of-the-art sound and lighting equipment. The video board and the ability to darken the house during pre-game introductions add a level of excitement unique to NCAA Division III arenas. The arena not only hosts Carthage sports events, but also regional high school games, performances by top musicians and comedians, and other community events.


Semler Fitness Center

This 5,000-square-foot fitness center has cardio equipment, weight machines, TRX Suspension, free weights, and other exercise equipment.

Koenitzer Aquatic Center / HARIBO Pool

The Koenitzer Aquatic Center, named for John and Joyce Koenitzer ’74, is 25 yards by 40 yards. It features 10 deep-water lanes for competition and an additional six lanes for warm-up and cool-down. A separate whirlpool is available for swimmers.

  • Monday-Friday: Noon-1:30 p.m., 6-9 p.m.
  • Saturday: Noon-2 p.m. 
  • Sunday: 2-4 p.m.

Weekend hours may be affected by home athletic events. The pool is closed during the summer.


Rock Climbing Wall

The Carthage Climbing Wall is available for use by all members of the Carthage Community. Rock climbing is a full-body workout and is an excellent way to improve core strength and stability. No previous climbing experience is necessary; instruction for new climbers is available during any hours that the wall is open. Any experienced climber will be expected to pass the standard knot/belay test. All equipment is provided, however, climbers may bring their own shoes and harness if desired.

McNamara Indoor Baseball/Softball Facility

The McNamara Indoor Baseball/Softball Facility features three indoor batting cages, a large soft-toss and hitting-tee area, and space for pitchers and catchers to throw.

The facility has a full, AstroTurf© flooring, as well as its own sound system.


Dale Golf Center

The Dale Golf Center is the men’s and women’s golf programs a brand new, state-of-the-art space to practice indoors within the Tarble Athletic and Recreation Center. The new facility opened in 2019. Two Trackman simulators were installed, a putting green, and a golf bag storage space, all set under the new conference championship and NCAA Tournament appearance banners.


Dance Studio

The dance studio in the TARC hosts dance courses and also serves as a rehearsal space. The studio features a professional dance floor, mirrored walls, movable barres, and a sound system.

The studio is open during general TARC hours.


Marconi Weight Room

The Marconi Weight Room, located in the TARC, is home to a variety of free weights and weight machines. This is the primary weight lifting area for Carthage’s athletic teams.
